We spend money on service all the time in life. It can be anything from takeout food to yard work. Many services that we pay for can add up quite a lot over a life time such as oil changes. When we learn how to do many of the things we pay others to do whether it be out of laziness or not knowing how, a lot of money can be saved.
So our advice – If you can, learn to do it yourself!
Here at Crazyfinances, we have had our own DIY experiences such as doing some car maintenance and you can see a short clip of some of the fun we had trying to replace brake pads.
So here’s a story about a DIY adventure that we embarked on.
While we obviously aren’t mechanics by trade, we did decide to try to do a brake pad change ourselves. This process was not only a learning process so that we could do it again ourselves in the future, but it also saved us quite a bit of cash.
So some quick background, the car we were working on is a Honda Civic. The Honda dealership in our area quoted each brake pad change at about 200 a piece or 800 total. By buying the brake pads ourselves for about $30 each, that comes to a savings of $680. With just a bit of YouTube tutorial watching and using what was available, we were able to make it work.
For those of you looking to do something yourself whether it’s auto repair, cooking or something else, there are a host of benefits. Having the DIY mindset can truly be rewarding in the long run.
You completed a number of nice points there. I did a search on the matter and found the majority of folks will have the same opinion with your blog. Nerita Say Corie
